Urszula Beata Kasprzak, commonly known as Urszula, is one of the most popular and valued polish rock female singers. Urszula – age and early career

Urszula was born on Feb 7th of 1960 in Lublin, Poland. She discovered her music passion quite early. Her music journey began in her teens when she participated in different festivals and contests. In 1977, during a prestigious festival in Zielona Góra, she was awarded a Złoty Samowar. It was not only the beginning of her successes to come but also a confirmation of her talent and unusual voice.

In 1982, Urszula joined the band Budka Suflera, what earned her recognition for her vocal and lyrics. In cooperation with Romuald Lipko and other band members, she created many unforgettable hit songs. Songs such as ‘Luz blues, w niebie same dziury’, ‘Dmuchawce, latawce, wiatr’, ‘Malinowy król’ or ‘Powiedz, ile masz lat’ became rock classics and gave her huge popularity.

From 1990 til 1994, Urszula lived in the US, where she found a new audience and gained new experience. She also met different artists in the US, what inspired her and broadened her music perspective.

When she returned to Poland, she recorded ‘Biała droga’, a breakthrough album in her career. Released in 1996, rock album was sold in 800 thousand copies. Songs from this album, ‘Na sen’ and ‘Konik na biegunach’, began anthems of the youth at the time. She experimented with hard rock music but kept her unique, pure vocal, which gained even more credit.

In her early career she sang country music but since the 80s she focused on rock and pop-rock and her strong voice was ideal for the sound of these genres. Urszula is not afraid of experimenting with different styles and tries to incorporate new elements to her music.
