Piotr Nagiel is a vocalist who has been on stage for over thirty years. Despite his vast experience, he comes across as someone who does not seek fame—and yet he is deeply loved by many listeners. Why? Let’s take a look at his story and artistic work to try to answer that question.

Piotr Nagiel was born in 1964. He did not have an easy childhood—he could not rely on support from his father, who struggled with alcoholism. Unfortunately, the future musician also became addicted to alcohol. He first reached for it at the age of fifteen, which led to a dependency he battled for many years. It was highly destructive—for example, it prevented him from continuing sports. He had played football for the third-league club Gwardia Warszawska. He overcame his addiction only in 1997. These difficult experiences had a significant impact on his later career.

Kama-X

Before he finally put the bottle aside, he began performing with the band Kama-X, where he was the lead vocalist. The musicians had been playing together occasionally since the late 1970s, and in 1988 they officially formed the band in Warsaw. They treated music as a passion—something meant to bring joy rather than money.

In 1992, they released their first and only album, Na drzewie. Some of its tracks are available online. Each one pleasantly transports the listener into the world of 1990s rock. You can hear that the band enjoyed making music while maintaining a solid sound. Nagiel’s vocals also come across very well.

The band played together for over ten years, eventually parting ways when their shared passion faded. However, their vocalist’s passion remained strong, which led to his future projects.

Sto%

In January 2003, Nagiel founded the band Sto%, with which he recorded several albums. He proved to be an effective leader. The group created a lot of music and performed extensively. They played concerts in various countries and took part in numerous initiatives, using their music to promote positive values.

It is estimated that by 2009, their concerts had reached a total audience of over one hundred thousand people. The band has a dedicated fan base. I did not find information about any concerts in 2024, though there is also no indication of problems within the group. Perhaps this is related to Nagiel’s newer project with Ewelina Tyranowska.

Homo Homini

Homo Homini is a band with a rich history and many achievements. It was founded in 1971 and recorded four albums by 1979. The group ceased activity in spring 1982 during an unsuccessful attempt to celebrate its tenth anniversary.

Nagiel was not part of the original lineup, but his connection to the band is important. In spring 2008, Homo Homini was revived with a new lineup, including Nagiel. This was made possible thanks to his relationship with Aleksander Nowacki, the band’s founder and leader.

In 2008, after thirty years, the band released a new album, Reaktywacja, consisting of nineteen tracks. It offers a nostalgic experience for longtime fans. The artists also collaborated on another project, recording Lato jest super, which includes Nowacki’s songs from an earlier album along with several new tracks featuring Nagiel.

Piotr Nagiel – solo career

Although Piotr Nagiel has been involved in many projects, he has not forgotten the fans who want to hear him as a solo artist. He has released numerous albums showcasing his distinctive voice. What makes this unusual is that he does not promote or sell his albums in conventional ways.

He has created at least five solo or duet albums that cannot be purchased online—there is barely any information about them. Nagiel follows a unique approach: he sells all his albums exclusively at concerts, which he performs quite frequently. He does not engage in typical promotion because he has a highly devoted fan base on Facebook. His fans are willing to travel hundreds of kilometers just to hear him perform and buy his music.

Nagiel is an unconventional artist. He maintains very close relationships with his audience, who seem to genuinely care for him—almost like a member of the family. There is little information about him online, but that does not seem to bother him. What matters to him are the people he reaches and the message he can share with them.

To be fair, it should be mentioned that his latest album, Cześć… Co u Ciebie?, has been promoted to some extent. A few posts announcing the release appeared on his Facebook page. However, this is likely because the album was created in collaboration with singer Ewelina Tyranowska. Earlier projects were promoted minimally—sometimes with just one post or none at all.

As mentioned earlier, Nagiel’s battle with alcoholism—and ultimately overcoming it—had a profound influence on his life and career. He completed a Personal Development Program, a Psychological Assistance Study Program, and an Addiction Therapy Study Program at the Institute of Health Psychology in Warsaw.

Today, he runs the ODNOWA24H addiction therapy center. He also travels across Poland, meeting with young people to warn them about harmful choices and to share his own experiences from the time when alcohol controlled his life. His music also addresses addiction, aiming to caution listeners about its consequences. He is an active advocate who has undoubtedly helped many people.

Opinion about the artist

Piotr Nagiel is a truly fascinating figure. He has a distinctive voice, strong skills, and extensive experience. His songs are of high quality, yet very few of them are available online.

Zbigniew Malicki (former bassist of Kama-X) stated that the lack of success of Na drzewie was due to poor promotion. One might think such an experience would push an artist toward better promotion strategies. However, Nagiel has not followed that path—he has no YouTube channel, is not present on Spotify or other streaming platforms.

A few of his songs are available on YouTube, and interestingly, they have significant view counts: W pijanym świecie has around 300,000 views, while Płomień świecy has about 200,000. These numbers show that Nagiel has the potential to attract hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of listeners.

Yet, when searching his name online, you will not find much about his music. Instead, you will come across articles about his talks on alcoholism and advice on overcoming addiction. He could easily sell his albums online and likely earn substantial money—but instead, his albums include a note prohibiting the distribution of his music, even on the radio.

Nagiel does not seek popularity for his music—he seeks visibility for the message he shares, because that message can help people. It is something genuinely admirable and speaks highly of him. For anyone struggling with alcohol or drug addiction, he is certainly a figure worth discovering.
