MoCart Group – a humorous look at classical music

MoCart Group is the best comedy group amongst musicians and the best group of musicians amongst comedians. They have been entertaining audiences in Poland and in the whole world for almost 30 years. Music is a universal language, understood in every country, which, according to the saying, soothes the savage breast, and which creates a perfect mix when paired with good humour. That’s the recipe for success of this extraordinary string quartet.

MoCart Group – who are they?

The musicians who make up the group play the violin, viola, and cello. The quartet was established in 1995 and consisted of Filip Jaślar (first violin), Michał Sikorski (second violin), Paweł Kowaluk (viola), and Artur Renion (cello). They debuted in “Na gapę” – a television show aired on Canal+, hosted by Edward Mikołajczyk. Two years later they participated in PAKA competition of sketch comedy groups and won the “Złota Szpilka” [gold pin] Grand Prix award during the XVIII Biesiada Humoru i Satyry. MoCart Group has also performed their first show, titled “Mozart’s still alive” in “Gęba” club. They’ve won an award at PAKA twice – both in 1998 and in 2000 they got the 2^nd place.

The year 2000 is groundbreaking for them – among others, they win the “Pingwin z brązu” [bronze penguin] comedy award given by the comedians’ association from Zielona Góra, and they appear in Olaf Lubaszenko’s film “Boys Don’t Cry”. Unfortunately, in the same year the group deals with a tragedy – on October 14 Artur Renion, the cellist, dies in a car accident. The group briefly dissolves, but after an intervention from Artur’s family and the cultural circles MoCart Group resumes its activity with a new cellist – Bolesław Błaszczyk.

MoCart Group– a joyful creation

MoCart Group’s performances are characterized by the blend of classical and popular music. In combination with stage acts and unusual props it makes for an original and spectacular show. “We are contrary to the pompous seriousness of concert halls, contrary to the boring everyday life of musicians, contrary to passionate lovers of classical music, and contrary to fans of rock, rap, or pop, who avoid classical music at any cost. We treat our Mother Music with humorous irony and we’re sure that she won’t be mad.” – said Artur Renion. They aren’t scared to create their own interpretation of the most famous classical pieces, and their unordinary arrangements make people of any age laugh. They don’t perform only in Poland – they have done shows in over 40 countries under the name MoCart Group.

Seeing them live is really worth it, as their performances are amazing spectacles of music and comedy.
