Kasia Popowska – her story

Kasia Popowska was born on 25th of November 1989 in Łódź. She got seriously interested in music, when she was 16 years old. At the time she started singing and play guitar. But she didn’t attend professional music school, what shows, what big role in her success played her pure talent. Vocal skills she achieved by creating cover songs.

YouTube and her internet popularity
Extremely important – if not game-changing- moment in life of Kasia Popowska was setting up the YouTube channel in 2007, where she published her own interpretations of popular songs. Her renditions gained many views, what made her name recognizable in the music industry for the first time.

Got Talent!
In 2009 Kasia decided to try her hands at second edition of programme Mam Talent! (Got Talent!). At only 19 years old she sang the song Hallelujah. When she finished singing, she was awarded with standing applause from the audience, and many warm words from the jury (with experienced musician Agnieszka Chylińska). Although Popowska got three times “Yes”, finally she didn’t make it to the semifinals. Even though she didn’t win the show, her performances got her attention of bigger audience – the average viewing figures of the second season was over 5 million viewers.

Przyjdzie taki dzień

After taking part in Mam Talent! and publishing many covers on her YouTube channel Popowska signed a contract with Universal Music Studio Poland. Their cooperation resulted in release, on first of June 2014, her debut song called Przyjdzie taki dzień.

The piece was composed by Tomasz Konfederak, and the lyrics were written the artist herself. Song quickly gained popularity, reaching to top twenty of the most played songs in polish radio stations. In a year after the premiere video clip for the musical composition reached over a 13 million views, today it has more than a 28 million. It was also considered most watched polish music clip according to Vevo.

Kasia Popowska – Przyjdzie taki dzień

Przyjdzie taki dzień is a song about desire to escape from reality and a moment of freedom. Persona knows that life will finally wake him up, but now he wants to get wild one last time and follow someone who gives the feeling of detachment. The lyrics talk about inner conflict between dreams and the world that does not always allow them to come true.

Sucess Przyjdzie taki dzień opened doors for Kasia Popowska to performances on prestige music festivals such as Sopot Polsat Festival and Krajowy Festiwal Piosenki Polskiej w Opolu (National Festival of Polish Song in Opole). Artist was also nominated in category Best Artist on Eska Music Awards and was awarded with journalist’s prize on Festival in Opole in 2015.

Kasia Popowska – music albums

Not long after releasing song Przyjdzie taki dzień Popowska published her debut album called Tlen. Album consisted of 10 songs (15 in deluxe version and 22 in re-edition from same year). The producer of the record was Marcin Kindla.

On her debut album Popowska presented her high musical skills. Her experience with music covers may have resulted in Tlen becoming quite diverse album. Artist didn’t keep herself to only one music genre, she played with sounds and experimented with different styles, as pop, indie- folk and soul.

Album was met with good response. After Przyjdzie taki dzień big popularity gained also the song Lecę tam, achieving millions of views.

Kasia Popowska – Lece tam

In 2017 Popowska released her second album called Dryfy, which consisted of 12 songs. The most popular of them were Tyle tu mam and Dryfy, which were highly noted on radio hits lists. With the song Tyle tu mam Popowska stepped forward to national eliminations for 62nd edition of Eurovision Song Contest, yet she didn’t qualify to the competition.

Her third album – Toast – was released in 2020. Even though it didn’t get much of a publicity as the others have done, listeners of Popowska appreciated album for the artistic maturity of the vocalist. For the first time artist opted for simplicity, avoiding extra arrangements and focusing on emotions that captures the heart the most.

Rapunzel

It’s worth mentioning that before Popowska began her professional carrier, she had her first contact with singing, which she got pay for. In 2010, which is two years before the debut album, Popowska voiced Rapunzel. She gave her voice to the character in musical parts. She performed astonishingly, presenting both her extraordinary voice, as well as skill to fell into character.

Many years after recording Tangled music score Popowska took part in series Widzę Głosy, where she told her story about her part in the movie. Among others she mentioned that during singing one of the songs she evoked such strong feelings that she actually started crying, just as Rapunzel in the movie.

Your Face Sounds Familiar

Popowska on every step of her carrier demonstrated her huge music talent. We can mention about her start, when she taught herself music, about her greatly performed covers or her outstanding role as a Rapunzel and her original work. The cherry on top, confirming her incredible skills was her participation in the tv show Your Face Sounds Familliar (Twoja Twarz Brzmi Znajomo). It is very challenging music form, only the best can handle.

Kasia Popowska not only handled it perfectly, but in fact she won the whole show, beating such musicians as Sławomir Zapała or Zofia Nowakowska.

When the new album?

Since 2020 Kasia Popowska did not released a new music album. Unfortunately, since the time she released not many songs either. Her carrier strongly slowed down, what seems to be a great loss to polish music stage given the fact that her occasional songs still present high quality.

From her interesting latest projects, it’s worth mentioning the song Wrong Sings for the movie Jak pokochałam gangstera (How I fell in love with a gangster). Popowska is also a writer and an author of music for the song Co by było gdyby from the movie Akademia Pana Kleksa (Kleks Academy), performed by Anna Karwan.

There is nothing to do than wait for the new album from this talented singer. It is currently not announced but for sure strongly anticipated by all the fans of the artist.
