Jula – a story. Million words are not enough to describe her talent

Jula, or rather Julita Ratowska, was born on March 3, 1991 in Łomża. From an early age, she showed interest and talent in music. As a child, she sang in the Łomża Song and Dance Ensemble, and as a primary school student, she won high places in vocal competitions. She first gained recognition in 2007, when she was only sixteen. That was when she began to write her first songs. From a technical perspective, they were very amateur songs, because Jula wrote them at home. Her goal was not to publish them on the Internet – they were intended for family and friends. However, fortunately – looking at how her career went later – some of the songs leaked onto the Internet. They gained many views from supportive listeners who appreciated Ratowska’s vocal skills.

One of the first singles that internet users could hear was “Sprzeczność serc”. Considering the internet at that time, it can be said that it gained quite a lot of popularity. However, Jula did not achieve this through controversy or the mere fact of her young age, as was the case many times in the history of the Polish music market. “Sprzeczność serc” is simply a song in which the singer’s vocals are extremely attractive. It is also a song full of contradictions, not only in its name. On the one hand, you can hear a lot of amateurism in it, especially when it comes to the quality of the sound. This song was composed at home, more precisely during Ratowska’s birthday. Its goal was not to take the music market by storm, but rather to hear warm words from the loved ones. This is very prominent. On the other hand, despite this amateurism, the listener receives Julia’s sensational vocals. You can hear great potential and, above all, talent in it. The same applies to other songs that were created before Ratowska’s official debut. Currently, many of Julia’s songs from those years have several million views on YouTube. This is all the more surprising because although Jula has a beautiful voice in them, these are still songs with no budget, no mixing skills, and poor sound quality.

Songs such as: “Sprzeczność serc”, “Tamten dzień”, or “Ile zła”, which were amateurishly performed at home, attracted the attention of the Polish music industry. Jula sang so well that someone decided to give her a chance. Finally, we could hear her beautiful voice combined with the high quality of the music. Jula signed a contract with My Music Group and published her first professional song in 2012. What did the combination of her voice with a high quality sound give?

The song “Za każdym razem” is her first studio song to hit the internet. It achieved a huge success and reached the top of the most played songs list on Polish radio stations. “Za każdym razem” gave the singer nationwide recognition, not only in the online community. Additionally, a music video was recorded for the song, which enabled the listeners of the previous amateur songs to finally see what their favorite singer looks like. “Za każdym razem” has currently over 40 million views on YouTube, which is a truly impressive result.

In 2012, Jula released her first music album with My Music, entitled Na krawędzi. The entire album, like the previous song, achieved great success. It took third place on the OLiS list and received golden status. The album also included Jula’s third most popular song – “Nie zatrzymasz mnie”, which has over 18 million views as of today.

On June 17, 2014, she released her second studio album, 180°, which was listed at 24th place on the Polish album sales chart. This project did not repeat the great success of the previous one. It was a certain drop in results, but it did not discourage Julia from continuing to create. In 2017, she released her third album, titled Milion słów. She promoted it with a song of the same name, which is her second most popular song, currently having over 20 million views. The album took 14th place on the OLiS chart.

Achievements

Ratowska’s enormous talent has translated into many successes during her musical career. In 2012, at the Trendy competition at the TOPtrendy festival, she was the winner of the awards: audience, internet users and listeners of the RMF Maxxx radio station. That same year, she was awarded in the categories of Best debut and Best ESKA.pl artist during the Eska Music Awards 2012 gala.

However, apart from her musical achievements, Jula also has a lot of experience in other areas. For example, she dubbed in the character of Catty Noir in the special edition of the Monster High movie, the Monster High musical. Boo York, Boo York. Ratowska also had the opportunity to play in the series M jak miłość, in which she played the role of Paulina Suska. She also took part in such TV shows as: Agent gwiazdy and Big Music Quiz.

Julita Ratowska has had a very strong start to her musical career. Crossing the threshold of 40 million views for a song is no small achievement. Her name was on the lips of millions of Poles during her heyday. Currently, however, she is quiet in the social media. Her last album was released seven years ago. Such a long break can exclude an artist from the rushing music market. In 2021, she released her new single “Między wierszami”, promoting the artist’s upcoming fourth studio album. However, three years have passed since then, and listeners still have not received the long-awaited album. Every once in a while, Jula releases singles which show that the singer still maintains the high level of good quality music. However, many people would certainly expect something more in the form of a whole album. Perhaps it is a gambler’s paradox, but many of the singer’s fans hope that since the last album was released seven years ago, a new project must appear soon. The latest songs, such as “Naiwność” or “Tańczę sama”, show that there is something to wait for.
