For years, Bartek Królik has stood in the shadow of the biggest stages ,yet it’s his sounds that give them their pulse. A bassist, producer, and composer with numerous awards to his name, he stepped into the spotlight in 2023, becoming the architect of one of Poland’s most acclaimed music projects of that year. But who is the artist whose music builds bridges between generations and genres?
Bartek Królik – The Story
Bartek Królik, born Bartosz Piotr Królik on March 19, 1979, in Gdańsk, Poland, didn’t spend much of his childhood there. At the age of three, he moved with his family to the Masuria region and grew up in Mrągowo, where he spent more than twenty years of his life. He recalls this period as crucial for his personal and artistic development. Surrounded by nature, he cultivated a deep sensitivity and creative spirit and it was then that he fell in love with music, a passion that led him to pursue an artistic education.
Królik attended the State Secondary School of Music in Olsztyn, where he studied cello, and later continued his education in double bass at the Post-Secondary Jazz Studies program at the Fryderyk Chopin State Music School Complex in Warsaw. He also spent a year studying at the Jazz and Popular Music Department of the Academy of Music in Katowice.
His later success was built on countless hours dedicated to learning and honing his craft. While his studies gave him a solid theoretical foundation, real mastery required hands-on experience and that came with his professional debut as a founding member of the groundbreaking Polish band Sistars, which he co-created in 2001.

Sistars was formed by sisters Natalia and Paulina Przybysz, along with musicians Bartek Królik (bass guitar, production), Marek Piotrowski (keyboards), and Marcin Ułanowski (drums). The group started out by holding jam sessions, initially performing covers of soul and R&B classics by artists such as Angie Stone and Lauryn Hill. Their sound blended elements of rap, R&B, funk, soul, and jazz, creating something truly unique on the Polish music scene at the time.
The band released a total of four records:
- Siła sióstr (2003 rok),
- EP (2004 rok),
- A.E.I.O.U. (2005 rok),
- The Best of Sistars (2007 rok).
Bartek Królik’s musical education clearly paid off — Sistars became a massive success. Their debut album reached #1 on the OLiS (Official Polish Sales Chart), a feat they repeated two years later. Additionally, A.E.I.O.U. was certified Gold. Over the years, the band earned widespread critical acclaim, winning numerous prestigious awards. Their songs Sutra and My Music brought them Fryderyk Awards (Poland’s top music honor), as well as two MTV Europe Music Awards in the category of Best Polish Act.As a bassist, producer, and composer, Bartek Królik emerged as one of the key creative forces behind the group’s distinctive sound and success.
Sistars – Sutra
After the breakup of Sistars in 2012, Bartek Królik didn’t slow down. He joined the band Łąki Łan, collaborated with Agnieszka Chylińska, and co-created the projects Spoken Love as well as the production duo Plan B together with Marek Piotrowski.Over time, he became one of the most recognizable producers and musicians in Poland, working with a wide range of prominent artists such as Edyta Górniak, Natalia Kukulska, Krzysztof Zalewski, Tede, O.S.T.R., Sokół, Marina Łuczenko, and Ania Szarmach. As an instrumentalist and arranger, Królik has also performed at major festivals from Opole and Sopot, through Open’er and Pol’and’Rock, all the way to the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival.
The Music Mentor
Despite decades of experience and a career filled with awards and recognition, Bartek Królik released his first solo album only in 2020 a record aptly titled Pan od muzyki (The Music Man). The album was the result of years of reflection and deeply personal experiences that forced him to look at life and creativity from a new perspective. Królik admitted that it took him forty years to mature for this step, with one of the main catalysts being a difficult period that included a stay in the hospital.
Pan od muzyki is a fusion of many genres from R&B, soul, and funk to jazz, pop, and even elements of rock. But Królik didn’t stop there. Just three years later, he released another solo album, titled 14. On this record, the artist explored a different musical direction embracing electronic music, club rhythms, and 1980s-inspired sounds.
