Michał Christian Wiśniewski (born on 9 of September 1972 in Łódź) is a Polish singer, songwriter, and media personality. He is one of the most characteristic celebrities – red hair has been his attribute for almost 30 years. In 2006 he placed first in the list of 100 most valuable stars of Polish show-business crated by Forbes Polska. Michał Wiśniewski and the band Ich Troje performed in front of thousands of fans and his songs were known by the whole country.
Michał Wiśniewski — difficult childhood and the beginning of his career
Michał Wiśniewski never had an easy life. He grew up in a dysfunctional family – both his parents were alcoholics. He couldn’t find a place for himself for a long time. His parents’ divorce, fight for custody – Michał stayed with his father, his younger brother with their mother, living in an orphanage, trying to make a life for himself in two countries (Poland and Germany), his father’s death – he started life as an adult with such emotional baggage. The song Tango straconych was written for his father. When he was 14, he went to Germany with his mother (who regained custody). He lived in Bonn with his aunt and gained dual citizenship. When he was in Germany, he attended music school and learned to play the piano.
During the next years he was moving between Poland and Germany and working various jobs, such as a construction worker and a salesman. In the 90s he came back to Poland for good and wanted to start his own business. However, he changed his mind and decided to record a few musical numbers. As it turned out, this was the beginning of his music career.
In 1994 he met Jacek Łągwa and they wrote vocal parts for the musical titled Wielki Testament. Not long after that they opened a karaoke club in Łódź, which was the first club of this type in the country. Encouraged by these small achievements they decided to start a band called Ich Troje, to which they invited Magdalena Pokora who wowed them with her performance of Edyta Górniak’s song titled To nie ja! The group debuted with the single Prawo. Their song topped the music chart of Polish radio Jedynka for 16 weeks.

Ich Troje released their first album titled Intro on September 9, 1996. They hosted a release party in Classic Terra – a club in Warsaw, during the event journalists could watch video clips for the songs from the album. Since then Michał Wiśniewski has recorded and released ten studio albums with the band: Intro (1996), ITI Cd. (1997), 3 (1999), Ad. 4 (2001), Po piąte… a niech gadają (2002), 6-ty ostatni przystanek (2004), 7 grzechów głównych (2006), Ósmy obcy pasażer (2008), Pierwiastek z dziewięciu (2017), and Projekt X (2022). Two albums: Ad. 4 and Po piąte… a niech gadają sold over 500,000 copies and got the title of a diamond record.
In 1997 Wiśniewski and the band performed at the 34th National Festival of Polish Song in Opole. In July 2001 they represented Poland in the 24th Baltic Song Contest in Karlshamn and won both the Grand Prix and the audience award. In 2004 they went on a tour in Germany with Matthias Reim – a German singer whom Wiśniewski met in 1996 during their joint concert.
Ich Troje represented Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 2003 with the song Keine Grenzen – Żadnych granic, and in 2006 with Follow My Heart. In 2003 they got into the grand final and placed 7th, which is Poland’s second-best result at Eurovision. In 2007 they were 11th in the semi-final. In 2003 Ich Troje also participated in the German Eurovision eliminations.
Later, Wiśniewski appeared in media as an expert or commentator of the contest. In 2006 and 2007 he toured the U.S. and Canada with Ich Troje, they gave over a dozen concerts. In August 2022 he performed at the Festiwal Weselnych Przebojów [festival of wedding party hits] in Mrągowo to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ich Troje.
Solo and acting career
At the end of 2004 he started a band called Red Head which played rock music. In 2005 he created another project – Renia Pączkowska, for which he wrote several songs in the “wedding-disco polo” style and performed as a drag queen.
He started to develop his solo career in 2005. In 2006 he participated in a single recorded for charity – Pokonamy fale. In 2012 he released his debut album titled Sweterek część 1, czyli 13 postulatów w sprawie rzeczywistości, and a year later La Revolucion, on which the song Filiżanka appeared. The singer has released two other solo records: Nierdzewny / Remixed and Sweterek część 2, czyli 13 postulatów w sprawie miłości. Wiśniewski has no formal music education, he sings with a characteristic hoarse voice.
Wiśniewski acted in porductions such as Zamiana and Lawstorant. He also appeared in documentaries: Nakręceni, czyli szołbiznes po polsku and Gwiazdor. Additionally, he played guest roles in some TV shows, e.g. Daleko od noszy, Niania, Młodzi lekarze, and Lombard. Życie pod zastaw. In 2018 he acted in a comedy show Chory na Sukces directed by Stefan Friedmann. He also had his own reality-show Jestem jaki jestem, which aimed to show his daily life as a regular person, not a controversial artist.

Michał Wiśniewski, like most celebrities, often shares his private and professional life on social media. He has around 300 thousand followers on Facebook and Instagram. The singer usually shows moments from his daily life and his concerts. He has been with Pola Wiśniewska since December 2019, the pair has two sons. The star still gives concerts and is active in his music career.
