Harry Styles, a British musician who began his career in a boy band, is now considered an icon. His musical deeds are put on a par with such names as Bowie and Jagger. The singer’s fashion extravaganza inspires. It is certainly not without reason that he became the ambassador of the fashion house Gucci. Who is the modern idol of not only teenage girls? In connection with the artist’s concert in Cracow, I wanted to introduce the artist’s silhouette.
Harry Edward Styles was born on February 1, 1994 in Redditch, UK. As a young boy he attended Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, where he and his friends formed their first band, called White Eskimo. From an early age, he has been strongly influenced by the women around him. Perhaps that is why today he calls himself a feminist and repeats like a mantra that feminism is not about men should burn in hell. What matters is equality. Anyway, the word equality seems to be the motto of the singer’s later career.
At the age of 16, Harry auditioned for Britain’s X-factor. Singing Isn’t she lovely by Stevie Wonder, he assured himself a place in one of the most popular boy bands of the 21st century. One Direction very quickly took one direction: success. Five completely unknown guys from different backgrounds, fall into the vortex of show business, releasing five studio albums. Harry, the youngest in the band, seemed to feel like a fish in water. He wasn’t embarrassed by the squeals of female fans, he was wallowing in success. At concerts he was a true volcano of energy, entertaining and puzzling the audience during song breaks. Female fans loved him. In fact, it this continues until today, as shown by the volume with which female admirers effectively drowned out the artist’s singing with their screams at his concert in Cracow.
Harry Styles – Discography
In 2016, the band One Direction suspended its activities. Distraught fans were assured that it was only a temporary break. The band’s hiatus did not mean a pause for Harry. In 2017, he released his first solo album under the title Harry Styles, and starred in Christopher Nolan’s film Dunkirk, receiving very favorable reviews. This is the artist’s film debut, recounting the authentic events of World War II.
The solo album was a huge success. He is no longer a good boy in a band for teenage girls, but a conscious, mature musician. Harry Styles as an album surprises. The songs are reminiscent of the wonderful 1970s and artists such as Elton John, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and David Bowie. There are nostalgic ballads, such as the album’s opening track Meet Me in the Hallway, or the extremely atmospheric single Sign of the Times, and rocking, incredibly energetic tracks like Kiwi and Only Angel.
His next album Fine Line, released two years later, only reinforces our belief that Styles is not a commercial artist. He stubbornly follows his musical path and shows us what’s in his soul. It is not the first places from the charts that are his priority, but showing his retro soul.
The second studio album, features contemporary songs lifted vividly from the rock ’60s or ’70s. The unique energy of these songs does not let you forget long after listening to them.
The world music tour, scheduled for 2020, with the telling title Love on Tour, is extremely well received, with tickets selling out in the blink of an eye. One of the stops on the musical map is the aforementioned Cracow. Unfortunately, plans were thwarted by a pandemic.
But his second solo album is also a strong image statement for the artist. He becomes a brand ambassador for Gucci, paints his nails, and openly talks about the fact that the single Lights Up is a song about freedom. About self-awareness, self-exploration and liberty. It’s a positive song about self-acceptance. Called by some an orgiastic manifesto of openness. The music video once again heats up the discussion about Harry’s bisexuality, the fact that he doesn’t recognize any kind of labeling, especially on gender issues.
His voice is also an important voice for young people’s self-acceptance of their difference, their sexual preference.
For Styles, 2021 is a year marked by new loves and awards. The artist begins dating actress and director Olivia Wilde. He is nominated for two Grammy Awards, and wins a statuette in the Best Pop Solo Performance category for his song Watermelon Sugar.
As it Was is one of Styles’ most listened songs
This year Harry is back in the style we already know so well. In great form. He surprises his fans with the single As it Was, the opening track of his third solo album titled Harry’s House, which everyone has been eagerly awaiting. It’s also quite a treat to hear about the next film project Styles is taking part in. Don’t Worry Honey is a story about an idealized community in the 1950s.
Above all, Harry Styles is a contradiction of what the musician was accused of after leaving One Direction. The new sound, which probably no one was prepared for, has electrified all opponents of the pop boy band. Styles is an extremely conscious artist, stubbornly committed to his musical inspirations. You can hear in his sound a genuine love and devotion to the music he creates.
